Guru Nanak Marathon
To promote good health, equality, and world peace, Sikh Sports Association of the USA is pleased to present the Guru Nanak Marathon. Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism traveled on foot for thousands of miles in the 16th century and spread the Divine message of the Almighty to far away places. He walked through the jungles, deserts and mountains. He visited all corners of India and traveled as far as Mecca and even modern Turkey. This was a time when there were no roads or any real means of transportation. Along the way, he met with many people and conveyed to them the message of the Almighty.
Guru Nanak Dev set out for four lengthy missionary tours termed Udasis. He visited many centers of religious pilgrims, held dialog with people of other religions and shared with them his Divine knowledge. He proclaimed that there is only but One God whose powers go beyond the name and forms used by mankind to describe Him.
Guru Nanak visited the places of pilgrimages in India including Kurukshetra, Mathura, Haridwar, Benras, Goya, and Ceylon. He also traveled far beyond India in the West to Mecca, Medina, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Baghdad (Iraq). According to the modern research, he also visited Turke.
