Sikh Sports Association Basketball Rules
ELIGIBILITY --Each team is allowed to have NO MORE than 3 "Non-Indians" on their roster."Non-Indians" are those who are not of Indian Decent or from the country
of India. Pakistani is considered "Non-Indian." A PHOTO ID/ORIGINAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE is
required for name and picture identification purposes. It is the responsibility
of the team captain to provide documentation verifying the nationality as well as the age
of any player that is in question. A protest of a player must be made before the start of the
game (Jump Ball). If the team captain fails to provide positive proof, the player in question
will not be allowed to play in that game and his team will forfeit any games of which he has
participated. If a player has played a game and is not under the correct age limit, he will force that team
to forfeit any games he has participated in. The tournament officials do hold the right to accept or
deny any protest. -NO MORE than
2 "Non-Indians" may be on the court at ANY time. If a team has 3 "nonIndians" on the court at ANY time that team will be
issued a Technical Foul AND that player will no longer be able to play for the rest of that
game. Players may only play on one team. Any player found to have played on more than one
team would immediately be disqualified from the tournament. In addition, the second
team for which he played for will forfeit all of their games. Rosters are not allowed to be
changed after the start of the first game. The tournament officials do hold the right to accept
or deny any protest. JERSEYS/UNIFORMS All teams are
required to have alike colored reversible jerseys with different permanent
numbers. There will be
no tape or permanent marker numbers allowed. Final judgment will be at the discretion of
the club officials. GAME 1. There
will be two 18-minute halves. The clock keeps running except for the last 2 minutes of
the second half and time-outs. During the last 2 minutes, the clock will stop on every whistle
except for the mercy rule. 2. Throughout
the tournament, a FIVE Minute buffer will be given to those teams who are late. If a
team does not show up 5 mins after the original start time, that team will
forfeit. NO
EXCEPTIONS. NO SHOT CLOCK . If a team forfeits (no show), the opposing team will
receive an automatic win. 3. 14&U,
17&U and Open teams will be playing in a double elimination bracket. MERCY RULE There will be
a 20-point mercy rule. If a team is leading by 20 or more points, the clock will remain
running in the last 2 minutes of the second half except for a called time-out. TIME OUTS Each team
will be allowed 2 time-outs per half that do not carry over. FREE-THROWS A player will
foul out when he reaches his 5th Personal Foul. Teams will
shoot in the bonus on the 7th team foul in each half. Teams will
shoot in the double bonus on the 10th team foul in each half. Player may
enter the lane upon the release of the ball. The shooter may enter the lane
when the ball touches
the rim. TECHNICAL FOUL= AUTOMATIC 2 POINTS and opposing team receives ball on
inbound. SECOND TECHNICAL= AUTOMATIC EJECTION. OVERTIME If the score
is tied after regulation time, then a 2 minute overtime period is played with
the clock stopping in
the last minute. All time-outs are canceled and each team will be allowed only
one time-out per
overtime period. Time-outs do not carry over! DOUBLE OT WILL BE SUDDEN DEATH with
first team to score at least 1 point wins. BEHAVIOR There will be
no fighting allowed in this tournament. Any player/players ejected for fighting
or for leaving
their bench area during an altercation can be disqualified from the tournament.
All players are
responsible for the actions and behaviors of their teammates. Their team may
also be disqualified
from the tournament. That depends on how many people get into a fight from that team. It is
up to the discretion of the club officials to decide that and their decisions
are final. All other
rules are HIGH SCHOOL Please
remember that it is the responsibility of the team captain to inform all his teammates of
the rules and regulations prior to the start of the team's games. ANY PROTEST
MUST BE IN WRITING WITH $100 DEPOSIT. IF DECISION IS IN YOUR FAVOR
YOU WILL BE REFUNDED THE AMOUNT. IF DECISION IS NOT RULED IN YOUR
FAVOR THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS. FORMS WILL BE PROVIDED All decisions
made by the tournament officials are FINAL. Team Captain
